Argentinian Union Announces National Strike Against Labor Reform

Buenos Aires, Nov 17 (NA) – The Association of State Workers (ATE) union today anticipated a "high adherence" to the national strike they called for next Wednesday, in rejection of the labor reform promoted by the Government.

"We all know that there will not be a single benefit for workers and SMEs," he stated in reference to the future change in composition of the national Congress.

On the other hand, Aguiar complained about "the ignorance" of those who call them "coup plotters," in reference to the criticism he received for organizing a strike before the details of the labor reform project are known.

"It has to be a strike that allows us to reignite the spark of conflict and for it to grow quickly," he added.

"Without a strike and mobilization, we won't stop it," stated its leader, Rodolfo Aguiar.

The union leader, recently denounced in the criminal justice system by the Government for "attacking the constitutional order and democratic life," stated that "the high levels of adherence that are anticipated show a growing awareness among workers about the harm caused by the proposed legislation" to modify labor contracts.

"Those who propose that we wait until December 10 to find out the details are playing into the hands of the Government and large business groups."

"The labor reform and the recent agreement (commercial) with the United States are closely linked."

"Exercising the right to strike is not a coup. A coup is trying to govern outside the law and against the Constitution," he stated in a statement accessed by the Argentine News Agency.

He also added about the strike: "It is the first measure that is carried out after the mid-term elections."

"In a state of law, authorities are elected and constitutional mechanisms of control and freedom of expression are also established."

"Work more and for less money to lower the costs of the looting."
